Activating Models for Making Investment Recommendations

TIFIN Wealth's portfolio optimizer will automatically make an investment recommendation using the active models within an advisor's model universe. Located under Investment Models > Active. The Active Model List is composed of:

  • Custom, proprietary models you've built or uploaded onto TIFIN Wealth

  • 3rd party models from leading fund sponsors (i.e. Schwab, Fidelity, SEI, etc.)

    • Note: there is no charge associated with adding/using 3rd party models

Active Models are used to make a tailored recommendation for a client after they've completed an assessment and to generate a personalized investment proposal.

It is important to note that whether you upload a custom model or choose to use a third-party sponsored model, both require the advisor to "activate" that model so it can be used in the portfolio optimizer investment recommendation.

In short, only the models listed within the Active report are used within the TIFIN Wealth optimizer to generate an investment recommendation.

Simply click the "Activate" button in the Action column of either the Model Marketplace or your Custom Model upload table:

The rest of this article will walk through the investment model marketplace to guide you through building, blending, or subscribing to the models to help you grow your practice.

Investment Model FAQs

How do I add fixed income securities (CDs, annuities, bonds, etc.) to my models?

  • Some fixed income positions, such as CDs, annuities, or bonds, are not recognized by TIFIN Wealth. In order to reflect the FI position in the model, assign a proxy ticker instead.

  • For example, a proxy for a CD could be a money market fund because the risk score for each would be conservative (typically reflected with a risk score of 1).

I'm receiving an error message when uploading my model/file.

  • This could be due to common errors. Make sure any cash positions are reflected via $CASH as the ticker / identifier and substitute any fixed income positions with a proxy ticker instead.
